God's Word Directs Us To Help The Poor

Jesus said, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and your gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.  I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.....I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for Me."  Matthew 25: 35-36 & 40

Jesus said, "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward." Matthew 10:42

"But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed." Luke 14: 13-14

"A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed."  Proverbs 11:25

"He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done."     Proverbs 19:17

"A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor."  Proverbs 22:9

"He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who is kind to the needy." Proverbs 14:21

"He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God." Proverbs 14:31

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.  Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." Proverbs 31:8-9

"She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy."  Proverbs 31:20

"If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.  The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.  You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." Isaiah 58: 9b - 11

"All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do." Galatians 2: 10

"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?  Can such faith save him?  Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes or daily food.  If one of you says to him, Go, I wish you well, keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?  James 2: 14-16
